Your browser does not support the audio element.

Oral history interview with Beatrice Chatman. Beatrice shares memories of growing up in her mother's house right next to the South Madison Neighborhood Center (now the Boys & Girls Club) and Blessed Martin House (now the Catholic Multicultural Center) in the 1940s and 50s. She reminisces about sewing classes, dances, record spins, pajama parties, summer camps, and more. She talks about attending Mount Zion Baptist Church on Fisher Street every Sunday, where her mother and aunt sang in the gospel choir, and going to church picnics and other events at Penn Park and Brittingham Park.
